Awarded For Service in Vietnam During the Operation Period: 11 September 1967
Utilizing search and destroy missions to seek out and destroy enemy concentrations Operation Wheeler comprised multiple elements of the 101st Airborne, Americal and 1th Infantry Divisions, along with support units, to flush out VietCong combatants and eliminate them from the NVAs Order of Battle. Operation Wheeler succeeded in counting 30,000 known enemy dead which greatly reduced the threat on civilian populations in the region. On 11 November 1967 Operation Wheeler combined with Operation Wallowa to complete the circle of enemy elimination. Enemy activity in the region dropped off sharply.
