The on-and-off again Ordeals for Old Baldy lasting many months were pursued by the enemy as part of their plan to take the strategic high ground in concert with their overall objective to create a morale victory culminating with the Ordeal of Pork Chop Hill and their bargaining position during the Armistice negotiations. Americans, Colombians and South Korean forces fought admirably all along this desperate Hill of Blood with such decisive and distinctive courage, costing the Chinese attackers with losses three times those of Allied casualties.
