Awarded For Service During the Operation Period. As the conflict continue to rage without signs of concluding in 1972, the United States and Allied need to end direct military participation on the ground in Vietnam required the Vietnamization of the war and, therefore, the rapid and urgent materiel supply of South Vietnamese Army, Navy, Marine and Air Force units. In response to this need the United States enacted the largest materiel supply operation, called Enhance, since the supply of Great Britain during World War II.
