Necessary to create new ports to supply D-Day invasion forces, and to convince the Germans that Allied Forces possessed unlimited men and resources to commit to Germany's defeat, Winston Churchill was opposed to the operation, claiming he was "dragooned" into accepting it. Dragoon's major success was in pacifying the Vichy region of France and thereby neutralizing the many conflicting and opposing French organizations that made Operation Overlord's success more difficult than it need be. Authorized for Active Duty and Ready Reserve Service service during the Operation Period.
